Heritage
Presbyterian Church is getting very excited about a
long anticipated building expansion.
Since at least 2003, congregational growth has
put pressure on the
capacity of our current building.
Sunday
mornings were particularly crowded, but building use during the week
was also
increasing.
A committee
did a thorough search of the options and decided
that additional classroom space was needed.
An architect was engaged and designs drawn up. The congregation
recognized the need, and in
November of 2004 pledged money to be given over the next three years to
pay for
a nine-classroom expansion.
Since then,
God has blessed us, and the demands on the
building have increased. Sunday
mornings
take highly trained traffic engineers to map out the use of rooms and
flow of
worshippers and learners. Last
year, two
new adult Sunday School classes were added, which have been well
attended. This year
the pre-school Sunday School class
was so big, it had to be split into two!
This means we have needed three more
classrooms on Sunday morning, in
addition to the ones we were short already.
It is good
news that our education program is growing, but
our space limitations are making it difficult.
We have also seen a significant increase in
the use of our building
during the weekday and evenings. Some
of
the new users are community groups like an art group and two new
support
groups. Others are
our own groups
including Bible Studies, youth activities and women’s circles.
Now, we are
getting close to our goal. Almost
enough money has been received or
pledged to begin building. We
can be
excited about soon seeing our space needs met!
The Lord is good.
On the right
side of this page, you
will see renderings and designs for the new
addition. Soon you
will be able to walk
into and use the rooms themselves.
And
we will all be lifting our voices to the Lord in praise.
