Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) of Warren County "Is there a better way to respond to the grace of God than by providing food and shelter to the homeless in your own community?" |
Four times a year, HPC hosts homeless families from Warren County in our church facilities for a week. On average, about 5 families or 13 individuals, are provided sleeping and showering facilities and 3 meals a day. The approximately 60 adult and youth HPC volunteers during the week also spend time playing with the children and in conversations with the adults. Six other local churches also assist by providing and serving dinners. To provide additional financial support for IHN, HPC members participate in an annual July 4th 5K “Run/Walk for Home” event in Cincinnati.

Tender Mercies |
HPC junior high and senior high youth along with adults provide and serve dinner on the fifth Thursday of the month at Tender Mercies in Over the Rhine. The purpose of Tender Mercies is to provide housing and supportive services for homeless adults with a history of severe mental illness. Their permanent supportive housing model addresses the root causes of homelessness, thereby preventing a return to the streets for our region's most vulnerable persons. We are happy to support this ministry by providing a meal for over 50 residents of Tender Mercies several times a year.

Backpacks & School Supplies
|
HPC partners with Carmel Presbyterian Church in Avondale, to provide backpacks and school supplies to children in need. This wonderful program allows all ages at HPC, pre-schoolers to seniors, to share in this rewarding mission experience. Throughout the summer, supplies are collected and sorted. In August a team of volunteers come together in an assembly line and fill all the new bright new backpacks with the school supplies in less than one hour. HPC and Carmel Presbyterian then distribute them to Avondale children. Last year we were able to provide over 600 children with a backpack and supplies. During the 14 years of this program, backpacks with supplies have supported over 5000 children in their school education.

Habitat for Humanity - Build A Wall |
Each spring, HPC families collaborate with other local churches to participate in a day long “Build a Wall” event that is coordinated by Habitat for Humanity. These wall frames are then incorporated into new houses built by Habitat. This volunteer event is a favorite with our families, and construction skills are helpful but not required in providing for this worthy organization.
