Children & Youth Mission

Mission and Faith Development Trips

Mini Mission Trip
(Ages 5-9)

For the younger children, “Kids of the Kingdom” (age 5 – 9), we provide a Mini-Mission Project in August.  This is a half-day experience for our young children and their parents.  The children learn about the particular mission, collect and donate specific items that are needed by the mission, and then visit the organization for an age appropriate mission activity. In the past we have served at the Ronald McDonald House, Bake Me Home, Matthew 25 Ministries,  Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank and the Mason Food Pantry.
Tween Mission Trip

(Grades 4-6)

Each summer, HPC ‘Tweens (Grades 4 – 6) travel to the Sandusky (Ohio) Mission Outreach Center for a 4 day mission trip.  We typically work on 3 separate half-day mission projects, enjoy a day at the Cedar Point amusement park, and then assist in worship leadership with the congregation of Sandusky Presbyterian Church. Our mission projects have included serving at a free community breakfast, cleaning and planting herbs at a “pay-it-forward” restaurant, helping mulch the grounds at a wildlife rescue, playing BINGO at a nursing home, gardening and visiting the residents at the Ohio Veterans home, weeding a prayer garden, and helping indigent families at a free laundry mat.  Our children return from the trip with new life skills, and an appreciation of how to serve those in need.
Youth Mission & Faith Development Trips

(Grades 7-12)

HPC junior high and senior high youth participate in domestic mission trips or faith development conferences in the summer months. Every three years our senior high youth participate in an international mission trip. In the past we have participated in domestic mission opportunities such as Group Work Camp Home Repair in Rushville, Indiana, local mission help in Burnet Woods, KY and Heifer International Camp in Arkansas.  Our Faith Development trips have included Triennium at Purdue University, Montreat High School Conference in North Carolina, and Massanetta Middle School Conference in Virginia.
We have multiple fundraisers for our youth mission trips throughout the year.  Check back for details!

The Broken Bus Ministry

This ministry began in 2015 to serve those in need throughout greater Cincinnati. It transformed an old bus into a mobile service vehicle that now houses food, clothing, shoes, toiletries, blankets, bibles and a vast array of other necessities. The bus includes a serving window that allows volunteers to serve the homeless population in a safe, yet intimate way. Once transformed, the bus began its weekly trips downtown and the mission of the ministry came to life, while also providing members of our Christian community the opportunity to serve others.

Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank

Cincinnati’s only diaper bank, supplies diapers to agencies who support the poor. These agencies then distribute the diapers on a monthly basis to assure some 4,000 babies are happy, healthy, and safe because they have clean diapers, and to assure caregivers have been relieved of the stress that comes from not knowing where their baby’s next clean diaper will come from. Sweet Cheeks has distributed over 3.6 million diapers in its first 4 years of operation. HPC members volunteer at Sweet Cheeks to sort, count and wrap diapers for distribution, in addition to supplying diapers and financial support.

Souper Bowl of Caring

Leading up to Super Bowl Sunday, the HPC ‘Tweens hold a congregational drive for canned food and monetary donations for the Souper Bowl of Caring. This is a national initiative that encourages giving of hearty soup and monetary donations to a local food pantry.  HPC has participated in the mission for 12 years, and in 2020 the congregation donated close to 1,500 cans of soup plus a financial contribution to the Mason Food Pantry.

30 Hour Famine

The 30 Hour Famine teaches the youth about global hunger and poverty. The HPC youth hold a retreat with thought-provoking Bible studies, games, inspirational videos, and more, for an unforgettable day-and-a-half of going without food to raise funds for the hungry. The 30 Hour Famine gives them a way to engage with these issues and do something practical to change lives! They're choosing to go without so others can have enough. The funds they'll raise will help feed hungry kids around the world and equip families to lift themselves out of poverty.

Progressive Dinner

The youth participate in a Progressive Dinner Food Hunt around the local area to collect donated canned and dry goods. They stop in between at church member's homes to eat appetizers, dinner and dessert. Local families in need are given the food through our Deacon food basket drive at Thanksgiving and Christmas time. The winning team who collects the most food receives bragging rights for the year.
