Journey to Bethlehem
Sunday, December 5
5:00 – 8:00 pm

We are welcoming the return of this annual tradition at HPC, as we recreate Journey to Bethlehem in a refreshed way that is meaningful, yet also safe for all our participants and guests. Come and enjoy a tour of the sights, sounds, and events of the first Christmas, when Jesus was born.

This is a walking tour throughout our building and grounds, in an open-house atmosphere.  There is something for every age!  Come when you are able, and stay as long as you like.

This is a free, community event.

Buy the gift and return it UNWRAPPED with the gift identification number to the church by Sunday, December 5. Please leave the gift in the fireside room next to the atrium. Click here to sign up to provide an Angel Tree gift for local children this Christmas.

Advent at Home
Advent is a time of preparation and waiting.  We prepare our hearts and lives for the birth of the baby Jesus.  In this time of waiting, we can adopt spiritual practices that help to center and prepare us.  In this season of Advent, consider some of these devotional materials

Printed devotional resources are available in the Atrium or can be digitally sent to your home. Several styles are available.

CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND FAMILIES: An Illustrated Advent for Families is a resource that offers 4 weekly scriptures, reflections, pondering questions, and activities.  This is a perfect resource for families, and young at heart who enjoy creativity.

ADULTS: A more traditional resource published by the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary can be downloaded here.   Paper copies are available in the HPC Atrium, or you can request the daily devotion to be delivered by email, or through the seminary app.  Check out www.pts.edu for a variety of options.

Prayer Resources
From PCUSA

During this season of social distancing, here are some apps and resources for personal and family prayer and worship.
The PCUSA Daily Prayer App (for iPhone users) provides brief services for Daily Prayer based on the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship, including: psalms for the day, readings from the daily lectionary, and prayers of thanksgiving and intercession.
  • The d365 daily devotional site, written especially for youth and young adults, seeks to provide reflections on themes that impact our faith journey.
  • Pray As You Go is a daily prayer session, designed to go with you wherever you go, to help you pray whenever you find time, but particularly while traveling to and from work, study, etc. Lasting between ten and thirteen minutes, it combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection.
  • https://www.ceaselessprayer.com/ This site allows you to pray for people in your contact list.

  • Staying calm is important right now. Meditation can really help with that. While most of the popular meditation apps can be pricey, Smiling Mind is a free app developed by a non-profit. It's designed for all ages, so your whole family can benefit. If meditation is new to you, be gentle and patient with yourself. Just like anything else, quieting your mind takes practice.
  • Pandemic Hope Devotional– This is an amazing family resource for life while maintaining social distance. There are devotional readings and activities prepared for the next 8 weeks for you to use with those you are isolated alongside. If you live alone, call a friend or journal.
  • https://new.echoprayer.com/ This app allows you journal prayers, and to schedule reminders for specific prayer times.
